How do I set up payments via PayPal with Invoice Simple?

The first thing you'll need to set up online payments is a business account with PayPal. You will not be able to set up online payments with a personal account. For more information on the differences between these two types of accounts, please consult this article.

You'll want to start by going to the settings page in Invoice Simple and finding the Online Payments box.

If you are using the mobile app, you can find Settings by hitting this icon:

On both platforms, the Online payments box will look like this:

Toggle Accept Online Payments on. You will be directed to our partnership page with PayPal.

Hit Get Started and you will be directed to where you can either login with your existing PayPal business account or create one. If you already have a business account, all you need to do is login with it and your setup is complete.

To get started with creating a business account, Enter your email address and country or region and then click next. This will take you to the sign up page where you will be prompted for some basic information. It's important that the information here matches what appears on your tax return.

Once you hit Agree and Continue, you will be prompted to verify what type of business you have.

If you're not sure what to choose here, please consider the following:

You are a Corporation if you have incorporated your business with the IRS.

You are a Partnership if you have a registered partnership agreement.

In all other cases, you would be considered an Individual/Sole Proprietorship.

Next, you will be prompted to verify what type of service you provide.

Next, you will need to indicate your typical monthly sales.

Please bear in mind that this number indicates the total amount you make in a month, rather than your total profit or the salary you pay yourself. That being said, the number you choose does not need to be exact and it is typically better to choose a little higher than what you typically bring in to give yourself some room to grow. For example, if you typically earn around $40,000, you may want to choose the $50,000 to $99,999 option.

One more thing to note when setting up a PayPal business account is that if you chose Corporation or Partnership as your business type, you will be prompted for your EIN (Employee ID Number). This would have been provided to you by the IRS.

Next, you'll be prompted for some basic personal information about yourself.

Once you submit this information, you will receive a message indicating that you have been sent a confirmation email. Follow the instructions in the email and your account setup will be complete.
